On March 23, 1977, the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization was established to
guide the transportation planning process in the Miami Urbanized Area. The United States
Department of Transportation (USDOT) requires the MPO Governing Board to ensure a
continuous examination of transportation plans and policies.
