As previously mentioned, the proposed project potentially involves roadway improvements along Okeechobee Road to enhance safety and mobility; frontage road enhancements, intersection improvements (grade- separated intersections will be considered) to improve the overall operations; bridge widening/canal crossing improvements, and multimodal options. This study will consider minor/Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSM&O) options as well as major improvements. The need for improvements along Okeechobee Road is based on a combination of the present substandard traffic operations along the project corridor and to optimizes its effectiveness as both a major freight corridor linking to other major facilities and also as an important access route for various residential communities. W 24 St W 28 Ave Operational improvements This is a needed low cost freight operational improvement, identified in the Freight Plan Update, that may not require PD&E, and may be able to go directly to design.
